Cavities happen when plaque builds up on the surface of a tooth, and the acid it produces starts to eat away at it. We treat cavities every single day using a natural-looking material to fill in the hole and stop the decay from spreading. That way, you get to keep your tooth, and it still looks and works like normal.
General Dentistry
You know what this is! Normal dental stuff. Crowns, fillings, extracting teeth. Why waste your time reading more about it?
But just in case you’re curious, here’s some info about General Dentistry
Crowns
If you don’t get a cavity treated when we tell you to, it will grow. That’s just what they do. A cavity could get so big that a filling won’t work anymore. That’s when we’ll say you need a crown. A crown is a porcelain cap that covers the tooth to restore its strength and function. Crowns literally save teeth!
Extractions
Sometimes, a tooth will have a cavity or infection so big that a crown can’t save it, so we’ll need to extract that tooth. We hope we never have to do that, but it does happen. Extractions are common, and we have lots of options for replacing extracted teeth so you don’t have to go around with a big gap in your smile.
Tooth decay isn’t the only reason you might need a crown or a tooth extraction.
Dental Trauma
You could damage your teeth if you get into an accident or have a nasty spill when you’re not wearing a mouthguard. We often use crowns on teeth that were broken because of facial trauma. Sometimes, though, the damage is too extensive, and then we need to extract.
Wisdom Teeth
We also extract wisdom teeth — those pesky third molars that tend to cause a lot of trouble when they emerge. This is a common procedure that helps to relieve pain and crowding.
